Most people fail to understand economics and politicians are willfully ignorant. They are specifically putting self before country.
Economics is rarely taught these days in middle or high school or much less paid attention to even if taught. I was fortunate that I was exposed to it a lot and actually liked it.
The business schools (alas!) turn out plenty of people who are equally blissfully ignorant of economics. Ask me how I know.

Economics is rarely taught these days in middle or high school or much less paid attention to even if taught. I was fortunate that I was exposed to it a lot and actually liked it.
If the politicians actually understood economics, they couldn't claim ignorance when the wheels come off.
It's a survival tactic.
If they were smart enough to grasp economics, they could get real jobs instead of going into politics.
