I loved the bit about the "solely symbolic". So true, and not just with the left. [Nothing grates on a lefty like M more than the adoption of a leftist technique by the right.]
Uh, forgive me for stating the obvious but isn't this blog part of that movement? As well as the 20-30 million Americans who believe that we living in the Soviet Republik now?
I will agree, though, that there are similarities to the later days of the Roman Empire, though. The correlation is shown quite eloquently in the first five minutes of Capitalism: A Love Story.

No, no, Nanette! Not the late Empire, the late REPUBLIC. Professor Hanson uses words precisely. The late Roman REPUBLIC was what immediately preceded the EMPIRE.

The period between the end of the Republic and the beginning of the Empire consisted of several civil wars.
Ah, alright. My thoughts are on similarities with the late Empire.

Roman republic, my posterior! We're the new Soviet Republik.
Late Roman Republic, late Roman Empire (debased currency, foreign mercenaries, pan et circenses), or maybe just late Austrian Empire (say about 1913)?
Takes time to build an anti-Obama movie/business infrastructure. The Michael Moores started in 2000. They had 9 freakin years.
Give me a a fuckin' break.
