I'd call myself a Scoop Jackson Democrat if only the Scoop Jackson wing of the party existed anymore. To quote Ronald Wilson Reagan (a man for whom I had decided mixed feelings for in the 80's), I didn't leave the Democratic Party, the party left me. The ideas of personal liberty and freedom FROM government are so foreign and alien to the current Democratic Party they might as well be written in Urdu.
A shame, really. I firmly believe in iron sharpening iron, but right now, one party is nothing but wet tissue paper.

To be fair, watching someone in the leadership of either party argue for individual liberty is like watching a dog try to play the trombone.
I guess that's why people like Thompson and Palin and several million tea partiers are outsiders and "extremists".
But remember, Bill Ayers, Anita Dunn, Van Jones and Jeremiah Wright are "moderate", because there are no liberals in America.
