It's a bit odd that it's painted on. Usually those things are chiseled.
It also looks like someone has been repainting and maintaining it. I've seen 100+ year old tombstones, and they're often close to being illegible. And these were all chiseled, not painted.
There were some 19th century Democrats with redeeming characteristics. Polk and Cleveland come to mind. A brief moment during Jackson's Presidency was the only time in history that the U.S. government was completely debt free - without a single outstanding loan or bond.
I thought it was William Jennings Bryant who first poisoned the Democratic Party and Wilson who turned it permanently.
Actually Regolith, it is both painted and etched... often, after the text has been chisled into the stone of the headstone, it is then painted to provide contrast.
If you look closely at the 'J' in Jackson and the 'D' in Deceased near the bottom, you will be able to see the shadow and edging created by the chisling.
Quite frankly, if Mr. Gringsby were alive today, I suspect he would be incensed at the Democratic Party, and not much happier with the Republican Party.

David, I was gonna say the same thing. What does it say about both parties that JFK was to the right of our previous president.
Sarah, it speaks volumes.
I live in a One-Party State, Republicans only exist as co-dependent Nomenklatura.
DirtCrashr, we all live in a one-party state.
