I sent that link to a friend the other day. His comments follow:

He writes of the folly of projecting your own reactions, to presume how others will react. But he's also doing it, I think. He respects a show of strength, therefore he assumes liberals will. I don't think that's correct. I think they react with fear, not respect. I think you'd see soccer moms approving 98% taxation and carte blanche ultimate governmental power over all civil liberties just for the sake of fighting us scary people.

If it comes down to a shooting war, we don't just have to kill the makers of policy. At that point we've painted ourselves as a real legitimate threat, and the sheep will be terrified. We've seen their undirected alarmed panic and anger from events like 9/11 - they won't grow teeth themselves, but they'll sign over everything they've got to the police state that promises to exterminate us.

I don't believe a shooting war would stop before we had to kill all the sheep, and I can't condone that.

The fallacy in Ross's work, the fallacy in Doctorow's work, the fallacy in the linked article, is that at some point they will stop and apologize.

Like hell they will. They don't back down, ever. Cue kyle reese re: terminator - "You don't understand what you're dealing with. That thing will not stop - will not ever stop - until you are dead."

The state doesn't take a bloody nose and reply "Well, yeah, I guess I deserved that. Let's talk."

No matter how much they deserved it.

My usual boundless optimism aside, I can't say as I disagree.

Were that the case, we'd still be shooting Tories.

Sure, if you want to expel a third of the population to Canada, like we did the Tories...

No need...just let 'em have the blue coasts, Detroit, and Chicago. Then, when the looters and parasites are done with 'em, we can buy out the survivors for three cents on the dollar plus some freeze-dried potatoes, and exile them. Won't be anything like a third of the population, by then.... ;-)

Of course, this is offered strictly for entertainment purposes.

I'm not Canadian, but what'd Canada ever do to us that was so bad that you'd wish this on that country. Now Cuber or some other craphole Marxist country, that's another matter.

All this discussion of defending the "American" tradition is, to me anyway, healthy to the patriotic cause. If you lose your country you ain't got a whole lot left.

There are several quotes the founding fathers made in regards to defending and dying for what they designed. The Constitution of the United States of America. The American way of life, freedom and liberty.

I served in the US military during war time and quite frankly didn't like it at the time. Later I came to appreciate my little sacrafice and would willingly do it again.

When Mike Vanderboegh talks about the "three percent", he can count me and my wife in.

"The state doesn't take a bloody nose and reply 'Well, yeah, I guess I deserved that. Let's talk.'"

The state doesn't, quite true. What I'm talking about is finding the constituent human nodes of state power and giving THEM a bloody nose. Wars are ALWAYS a matter of will. They don't want it THAT badly. Not as much as we want liberty.

I've bet my life on that proposition. Anytime the tyrannically-inclined pukes want to take that wager, they know where to find me.
