I don't think this is so surprising. The MSM is heavily getting into no cost pseudo reporting and entertainment.

"Reality" shows are cheap. AP wire stories are dirt cheap.

Copying blogs is not only free it's better than what they are producing anyway.

Not a happenstance, probably a trend.
