Seems she made a mistake there. IIRC, some permits have that restriction, but not all of them. Up to the county whether or not they want any restrictions on their permits.
*sigh*
Markadelphia TOLD YOU that the Media's not Liberal.
I'm sure she works for a corporation, and we know they're all Rethuglicans, so this is a conservative article.
Seriously, though, this is why "press exemptions' are bullshit. Or any exemptions based on 'profession'.
There should be no exemptions for any professions for anything. Not the profession. (Might be different for someone fufulling a job, therein being large difference).
The author published a name, plus "a Republican" how many times?
Four times, which included two couples for a total of six people (seven if we include the son who declined the interview but was identified anyway).
Are there no laws to prevent the publishing of CCW names in California? Sadly, the cost of translating California Laws into Spanish must be to high for society to bear.
Someone could, should, would be sued for this article.
The main local newspaper for Westchester County, NY did the exact same thing a while back - published the names of every gun permit holder in the county. The backlash against the paper was swift, and severe.
In NY State, you need a permit just to OWN a handgun... carry "rights" are graduated and supposedly based on need.
They also started in with a massive "gun problem" - apparently people with permitted/registered handguns are dying and (horrors!) the relatives inheriting these pieces aren't doing much in the way of turning them in, or registering/applying for permits themselves.
Has anyone asked Heidi Walters why she hasn't listed the names of women who have legally undergone abortion procedures?
Somehow, I don't think Heidi wants to investigate the people behind THAT list.
Somehow, THEIR rights to privacy when participating in their "rights" are paramount.
I'd love to see her answer to an e-mail asking just that question.
"able to pass the shooting test (shoot 50 rounds and hit the target dead-on with 40 of those, at a distance of 45 feet)"
If that makes her nervous she should see what the CCW shooting requirements are here in AZ. I think it is down to 10 shots total, 5 at 10ft and 5 at 25ft. Something like that.
I always hate when these articles are allowed to be printed. I think pictures of Heidi's house, her work schedule, commute time, grocery store of choice, etc. are all fair game now. Damn commies and there stuck up airs. Hopefully, everyone on this list cancels there subscription and convinces the rest of their friends/family to do the same.
Swift and severe backlash huh. Sounds good, any suggestions guys? It's a free paper so that would seem to indicate they live and die by their ad revenue. I've already made a few calls but no one seems to care too much just yet...
"But aside from Craig's gun business, which finds him making big bank deposits sometimes, the main reason the Caseys carry is to protect the valuables associated with their big hobby
...
That means, at these competitions and gun shows, they're often carrying around in their car thousands of dollars worth of guns and ammunition, which some savvy crook might figure out and try to get his mitts on."
Nice. "Dear Criminals - here's a guy with lots of money and lots of expensive guns. But be careful: he's armed. So just shoot him first before you take his stuff. It'll serve him right."
My comment there: Good article Heidi. Wonderful to let those 2nd Amendment types just how much more highly evolved you 1st Amendment types are. Who the hell do they thihk they are, expecting their names and addresses to be kept out of the paper? When can we see the lists of the names of all the cross-dressing, formerly axiomatically challanged, reformed past fornicators with cows, and other lists of gypsy moths and perverts, and when will you and the paper begin distributing the colored triangles?
Humboldt county may apply additional restrictions, but the *state* CCW law - Penal Code 12050 and following - says nothing about bars or courthouses, and CCW is an explicit exception to the crime of bringing a weapon onto a school campus or school property. Open carry in unincorporated areas (as well as any where else) would have to be UNLOADED without CCW. Loaded open carry requires a variant of CCW.
The CCW *laws* don't vary from county to county, but since the law says a LEO *may* issue, the application of the law is variable.
Heidi's email at the paper is easily available; the paper is a member of the "association of alternative newsweeklies". Her career seems to have taken her earlier to Las Vegas - there's a caricature of her, in a group, at the LV Mercury site.
But y'know what? Heidi seems to have gone out and actually interviewed these people. They talked to her. Heidi's tone seems a bit skeptical, but this is far from a hit piece.
And if she filed a PRAR (Public Records Access Request, Government Code 6250), the Sheriff would need a really good reason not to give her the info. Anyone can make that kind of request - I've used it, myself.
True, publishing the names was idiotic. There is no possible benefit here - no corrupt practice was exposed - and at least some possible danger.
Folks over at calguns.net have noted they were included in the list. They also confirm that the Sheriff (legally) adds restrictions to CCW - not in bars if drinking, and not on school property
I think auto plate numbers and addresses and driver's licenses and addresses ought to be published, too. The cars might be used in crimes, and if you aren't doing anything wrong, why should you be upset that people know your name and address. What do you have to hide?
--What's that? Ask who? Rebecca Schaefer? The actress?
Wow! I'm impressed and astounded by the depth of your analysis, the detail in your dissertation, and your absolute mastery of the English language!
That the best you've got there, bob?

Well, lookie here, one "Heidi Walters" is not on the list. Hers is one safe place for a home invasion.

These lists work both ways

Kevin Baker, kicking asses that need kicking.
A+ job, good sir!

I'd love to see her answer to an e-mail asking just that question.
The "Cleveland Plain Dealer" has been doing the same thing about once a year ever since Ohioans started receiving their permits in 2004.
RW: Well, y'know. Getting an abortion doesn't hurt anyone else like carrying a gun might... oh, wait.
Isn't Humboldt country where all the good weed in this country comes from?
Heidi sounds a little paranoid...I'm just saying :)

Now ever "Heidi Walters" anywhere near Humboldt is going to have her address and phone number posted on the net.
Nice. I hope the paper has to pay for this.

I like the way she told the criminals,

the public does not have the right to know anything about. mind your own business and you won't be minding mine.

The article would have been a decent article if they had not published the names of all the permittees. That is beyond the pale.
