I'm a big fan of the .357, having hunted with one for decades, but a 6" 686 Smith with a scope is about as concealable as a wheelbarrow. So, I gots me a 1911, and it's easier on my hands to shoot than my Ruger LCP in .380 Auto. I gotta admit, she has a point...
Despite my chubby paw, I've found the width of the grip on my Para-Ord P1045 (I forget how they style that name) makes that .45 my absolute choice for carry. 10 rounds of the excellent .45 round, compact size. What's not to like about a well-designed .45?
OK, I had to polish the ramp to stop a few mis-feeds, but that was all it took.
I already bought, PhilB. It's a Kimber Pro Covert II, for a number of reasons. It's the best tradeoff of features, quality, and price that I could come up with. So far, I'm quite pleased with it.
I don't think Buddha said the cure for suffering from desire was to fulfill the desire; I believe the idea behind Buddhism is you realize your desire is just fleeting and empty, and thus you get over your desire.
But what the hell do I know? I'm a SubGenius, our $aviour said "too much is always better than not enough" and I own 3 .45s.
Me too. A Kimber Classic Stainless, an Eclipse, and an Ultra CDP.

Just make sure it's a Mk4 Series 70 - the best of the lot before Colt quality went downhill ...
