Returning to the "indoctrination" thing, I just finished an excellent book on institutional design by Elinor Ostrom, and she made a frightening point in the end.
American government classes used to spend about 50% of their time on the Federal government, and 50% on state and local government. Now, it's about 95-5, if that.
People simply aren't taught to think about the local level. They don't know enough to consider policy questions on that level anymore. National politics is what they know, so that is what they default to.
Read the first paragraph on the page. Then Google "dollar a year men", "brain trust", "best and the brightest".
Better yet, look them up in Liberal Fascism.
So, I'm kind of seething right now. Like, teddy bear named Muhammad level rage. So I'm going to say this in a very civil way:
Senator McCain, you just lost my vote. You don't get it, you really don't get it. You don't understand the proper role of government and the proper place of the private sector. I'm going to use this next term as descriptive, not a pejorative. Those who have read LF will know what I mean. We now have three fascists running. They all want to blur the lines, create an organic state. Maybe it's a democratic fascism, but it is what it is.
I give up. We can't these people from getting elected, we can't do anything about it. Whoever wins, the conservatives will be the losers. Look for a new AWB, higher taxes, inflation, defecit, etc. It doesn't matter who wins. We basically have a choice of McGovern, LBJ, or Truman. That's it. We can have an idiot liberal, a pragmatic liberal, or a fighting liberal.
I just watched that again this weekend along with the Firefly set (thanks to my lil' bro).
Me? I like the last line in the movie, just at the credits...
I like closure...
Think about it...

haha, great!
have a good flight, man.
Sounds like it would have been a good time to have had headphones plugged in.
Which I'm sure you realized after the fact. ;-)
There is no situation in the world that cannot be improved through the judicious application of high explosives or a Serenity/Firefly quote.
I recommend using both for maximum satisfaction.
We gonna 'splode? I don't wanna explode.

I need a drink.
A drink won't solve the problem, but don't let that stop you. Maybe 2 1/2 years from now we'll have us a vote.
Yeah! For more of the same!
How do you replace the Windows startup screen with one of your own making?
>>Yeah! For more of the same!
But is it really more of the same if they're doing it harder?
By which I mean, is getting punched in the face the same as getting punched in the face really really hard?
At least it wasn't "I aim to misbehave" within earshot of one of the Thousands Standing Around.
"Yeah! For more of the same!"
Could be. Depends on how bad the Dems blow it. This is an historic opporknockity for them, too.
I loaded this http://doubletapper.blogspot.com/2008/02/stop-looking-over-my-shoulder.html
