Somebody pull out the "fire engine" from Fahrenheit 451. If the yahoos have called you out to a fire and are now attacking you, no problem. Soak em in flammable liquids. They'll either get the hell away from the fire (and the firefighters), or they'll get to close to the fire and solve the problem themselves.
Think of it as evolution in action.
One of these days, I really should do something about that "cursing like a sailor" thing. At the time, it seems the proper emphasis, but when quoted years later, it somehow seems unbecoming.

And now, some four years later, I really have to say that all of the New Jersey inspired socio-political distortions impacting me really have receded like a bad dream. It's not to say that PA doesn't have it's own share of it, but it's certainly refreshing not to be totally immersed, steeping in that sort of toxic brew 24/7.

As for the news from Britain, that is profoundly disturbing. Firefighters and EMTs are about as neutral and benign a hero class as can be. A society distorted enough to believe them to be fair game for attack has gone seriously off the rails, it really is evidence that the veneer of civilization on those areas has worn thin to the point of failure. One wonders if there's a "lord of the flies" atavism going on.
I'm thinking that the chavs need to be introduced to the output side of an inch and half fire hose at full pressure. Preferably with a brick wall to at their backs.
Sadly, if you read the comments over at Coppersblog, as soon as anyone says that ordinary people whould have more power (eg. to arm themselves or defend themselves), the comments are overrun by cops saying that this isn't the answer.
I think that they ought to be given "Ball-Peen Hammer Kits" in order to retroactively count the miscreants by the use of phrenology, but on the whole this givers me pause to wonder if these "disadvantaged youths," beyond just being stupid chav scum, resemble their French counterparts in a certain particular demographic way.
But it will continue as long as there are no real consequences, and incarceration and civil penalties are managed as a catch-and-release program by the Nomenklatura.
People are moving out of California too, and the ones remaining are practicing a high level of "non-compliance" - something that the newcomers to CA are probably very unaware.
Where did the Brits balls go??...The same place that there guns went??? If I was a firefighter with a water hoses that runs at 200psi, I don't think I would let a bunch of hoodlems get close enough to throw a brick at me. Not to mention having axes and crow bars for close quarters battle. To let this happen is unbelievable.
That's another option, too. If you're at the head of a firehose under full pressure, and you get attacked.... you can always just let go of the hose and back away quickly. "Oh no officer, I never touched him. Didn't need to, the free end of a wild hose beat him down more thoroughly than I EVER could. I'm pretty sure that's why both of his ankles are broken."
As one of many who got to Texas as soon as I could, I would like to tell the sovereign state of Maryland that it lost my taxes, and my spending, and my wife's even larger amount of taxes, and even larger amount of spending, and my kids' spending, and our traffic ticket fees, and our relatives' spending, when we left for a more free environment without total governmental interference.
How long before they stop responding to alarms in certain neighborhoods?
It got so bad in the more interesting dumps in the US that firefighters would only respond with a police presence...and our cops carry guns.

Sigh.

Let 'em sink.

Let Baltimore sink, and the sooner the better.
