BTW - anybody I.D.'ed the firearm? Friend and I have been debating and it's tough to tell from the angle (is the barrel really short or is just depth distortion)?
Looks to me like a "Jimpy" - what we Brits call a general Purpose Machine Gun" - the standard service MG. It's normally fired from a bipod (shown folded backwards under the barrel) but can be tripod or vehicle mounted as needed.
Belt fed (of course) with a detatchable butt for those times when it isn't needed (as shown in the picture) with a quick change barrel for the sustained fire role.
A good bit of kit.
