This thing on?

I don't know. Maybe things are getting quiet 'round here.

I think it's because you've had a string of (mostly) non-political posts.

Just 'cause we're not talkin', don't mean we ain't readin'.

Well, it's usually Markadelphia who gets everybody riled up, but he has not deigned to grace us with his opinions on how Obama is the only man who can save America lately. I cannot imagine why :)

jsid-1209473471-591463  GrumpyOldFart at Tue, 29 Apr 2008 12:51:11 +0000

I dunno, yer STILL getting comments on the Ben Stein/religion vs. science discussion, although it's slowing down.

I tend not to have much to say on the gun posts, cos I'm not a gunnie. Nothin against em, they just don't call to me. Nice grouping, btw. It's nice when the grouping tells you that scopes/sights are off, rather than a spread that just quietly informs you that you suck balls as a marksman.

It's not quiet. You're just reading slowly.

I think it's a combination of a couple things. The local lightening rod Markadelphia not being around is no doubt a reason for the slight slowdown.

Another reason I think, and I'm no blogger and never will be so take this with a grain of salt, is that the threads that got the most replies were usually about politics and that means those entries are event driven...meaning that is what everyone is seeing wall-to-wall coverage on on the news networks every night and everyone has something to say about those issues. That doesn't mean that the gun posts aren't interesting as they are very interesting (to me anyway).

Duh, it's because of groupthink.

So did you actually get fed up and ban him, he gave up, or he's on business to Hong Kong until next week or something...?

jsid-1209509990-591495  Kevin Baker at Tue, 29 Apr 2008 22:59:50 +0000

I've only ever banned two people, and one of them was JadeGold. Markadelphia is still (grudgingly) welcome to comment here, but I think he just got fed up with us knuckledragging Neanderthals refusing to accept Obama's gift of enlightenment.

I think Mark's very, very dismayed with Obama's latest, and unwilling to be subjected to our biting wit. :)

Additionally, he made 2 claims that fell apart, one that doesn't even stand up with his logic - and I think even he realized it. (But he's unable to admit that he's wrong, much less why. That's why he retreated back to claim that we're idiots - so sayeth Bill Maher. Oh, well, if Bill Maher said it....)

I think it's a combination of those events that has him down. (When I brought up that according to how he judges Obama and the "unity" platform he owes Bush apologies didn't get his usual rebuttal, it lacked a lot of heart.)

and one of them was JadeGold.

Does JG count as a "person"? Or should you count each of his personas separately? :)

I think JadeGold is the only (putative) human being ever to fail the Turing test.

jsid-1209535580-591511  LabRat at Wed, 30 Apr 2008 06:06:20 +0000

That would have been my second guess. My number one irritant next to him (who keeps his place by virtue of continuing to post stuff I AM interested in reading) kept silent for a whole week, then launched an out-of-the-blue rant against McCain's lack of an energy policy.

I just figured Mark would be tougher to shut up. :)

jsid-1209557634-591513  GrumpyOldFart at Wed, 30 Apr 2008 12:13:54 +0000

That may be a factor.... as noted already, the things that generate the most comments are political. So what's in the political news *right now*?

There's your answer. There's nothing we can say about Jeremiah Wright that gives a deeper belly laugh that what he says about himself.

jsid-1209574317-591522  David at Wed, 30 Apr 2008 16:51:57 +0000

I don't know about commenters, but I know a bunch of your readers were driving/flying to/from and attending Boomershoot this past week.

>>I think JadeGold is the only (putative) human being ever to fail the Turing test.

Aren't there grim legal consequences to flunking a Turing test? Like, don't we get to make them wear funny hats?
