I, for one, am glad that Bush won't "be remembered as a great “war president”, like Lincoln and FDR." They often got more American soldiers killed in a few minutes than we've lost in Iraq in 4 years. It was necessary, but if you can pick the era in which you'll spend your life, pick one with only small wars like Iraq rather than "great wars". Bush is playing for somewhat lower stakes, but at a much, much lower cost.
I don't expect to ever hear a President say it. What is scary is that I can't imagine a President like John Kerry or Al Gore even thinking it.

Anyway, yeah, the rewrite is nice and punchy. I wonder if I'll ever live long enough to hear an American president make that kind of speech.
