Two weeks isn't long enough, the week-old crap that "has to be done" is still lingering around and hasn't died, and the stuff that could be put off for a week comes back with a vengance.
Optimally a person needs to be gone for long enough so that the little stuff and the lingering should-do's die-off or get's handled by someone else, and when you come back it's with a fresh plate and a clean slate towards the future.
