THAT is the point that most people can't grasp and why we have so many laws and frivolous lawsuits. For some reason, people think they can legislate human behavior to remove risks.
One of the most striking and scary statements I heard on the news this morning was a person talking about the new scanning system that allows the screeners to see private parts quite clearly of anyone passing through. The person responding to the question of whether they would want this to be done said "I would do anything to be safe."
The ramifications of that statement are massive and points to a bigger issue where people no longer care about freedom just as long as they don't have any risk.
"Once you give up your rights to get any security, you've given up your security."
Exactly. Governments murdered hundreds of millions in the last century, and are still murdering tens of thousands every year. Terrorists killed three thousand once, when they got really, really lucky - and after the government helped by disarming their victims and teaching airline passengers and crew to go along with hijackers. Is it really wise to drop all the controls on our government so the small percentage of the government workers who are working to catch terrorists will have it a little easier?

But there are many and effective ways to make the life of air travellers even more miserable than it already is (out of first/business class).

It isn't just a matter of giving up a few of your rights for a little security.
Once you give up your rights to get any security, you've given up your security.
By that time, you are in the trap and you've been hogtied and prepared for the roast.
Unless I'm in the front left seat, I'm not flying anywhere.
