Every time I ask an anti-gunner, "OK, so you don't want people carrying or keeping guns to protect themselves - so what exactly would you have them use or carry?"
They never, ever, have an answer.
I asked this question of a "conservative" host named John Gambling one morning, and his reply was to ask me, "have you ever had to use a gun to defend yourself?" And right after I said "no, but..." he used the "power of radio" to cut off any attempt on my part to redirect the discussion back to what I had asked.
Well, when you're on a call-in show, you have to be quick and succinct... not always easy to come up with snappy answers.
This host just used my call to make his point, and used the "mute" button to prevent my attempts at creating actual discussion.
I'm a mechanic and I was taught early on to use the right tool for a certain job. I look at my guns as tools. All of my guns are self defense firearms. I don't hunt, but if I did I would use a rifle and not a pistol. Same goes for intruders in the home. I grab a fly-swatter to get rid of a fly. In the event of a home invasion I would grab my Saiga 12. That's how I explain it to the liberals. Tools, nothing more than tools.
I posted this on the site with Dr. Kellermans article. I have been trained to go after the problem where you get the most improvement for the least change. Hand gun deaths are a small part of unintentional deaths here. On the other hand, Doctors?
Number of physicians in the US: 700,000
Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year: 120,000
Accidental deaths per physician: 0.171
(U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services)
Number of gun owners in the US: 80,000,000
Number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups): 1,500
Accidental deaths per gun owner: 0.0000188
(Benton County News Tribune, 17 November 1999)
And so statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more
dangerous than gun owners.
"Remember -- not everyone has a gun, but everyone has at least one Doctor."
"I'm not going to hesitate. If they want to come back, and try to do it again, they are more than welcome.
I'll beef up security and get a few bullets for them.
There's a bullet for everybody that wants to come to my house."

Small Minor;
"Why People Keep Guns for Self-Defense"
Because I'm a "People Person"...you fucker!
Regards;
"Have you ever had to use a gun to defend yourself?" could be answered with "Not yet" or "Thankfully, not yet" (to be compassionate).
"Have you ever had to use a gun to defend yourself?"
Every dang time I step out the door, sir!
Not all defense is violent.
