The US has a higher non-gun homicide rate per 100,000 than many countries' total homicide rates, e.g 1999 - 2.15, 2000 - 2.11, 2001 - 3.13, 2002 - 2.00. Using data from the Scottish Executive, England/Wales had an average, 2000-2002, of 1.75/100k for all homicides(17.5 per million). Australia was 1.78, NZ 1.64, Switzerland 1.10, Canada 1.79

It's hard to explain how guns could influence those US numbers, so it must be something else.
