I'm friends with the lawyer who defended Pelleteri, Evan Nappen. He belongs to our pistol club. Pelleteri is now a convicted felon. Being a first offender he was not imprisoned, but all of the guns in his safe were confiscated because of it and were never returned to him.

Also, that was an appellate decision by the NJ Supreme Court and is now binding in all assault weapons cases in Jersey.

Before the NJ assault weapon law was passed in 1993 there were estimated to be over 300k weapons in NJ that possessed the characteristics prohibited by the law. Almost none of these guns were turned in, so approx 300k law-abiding Jersey gun owners are now potential felons. Sweet.

Un Freakin Believable.

I can't help but wonder how the state got turned on to what was in the man's gun safe.

You think thats bad, try the UK!!! I'm working on a little post about one of my chums battles to get a permit to own a rifle to go deer stalking with. Not an unreasonable request given that he is a qualified British Army sniper!
Now I don't always agree with all that the NRA says & does, but you guys have got watch out. Lower your guard for a minute, miss one piece of legislation & the US will end up like the UK....you have been warned!!

This case is one of the many reasons why I Am So Out of Here.

It is a disgusting, and unconscionable distortion of justice.

So, Pete, how did the cops come to look in Pelleteri's safe in the first place? Do you know?

jsid-1069728714-256662  Pete at Tue, 25 Nov 2003 02:51:54 +0000

Kevin,

That's one thing I never asked. I'll try to find out at our monthly club meeting. It's on the first Wed of each month. Evan has been showing up pretty regularly.

He handed out a card at one meeting to all members. It had S.A.C. printed on it.

S = keep Silent.
A = Ask for your lawyer.
C = never Consent to a search.

He said as long as we remembered those three principles he could probably get us out of trouble with firearms charges.

Wow. Another reason I'm glad I live in Arizona. I know of no banned weapons here other than federally illegal (or license required) ones.

Unfortunately, some of the toys I played with as a juvenile (decades ago) are now illegal (well, they may have been then too, what did I know).
They're long gone now, sigh!

jsid-1069770859-256669  JS at Tue, 25 Nov 2003 14:34:19 +0000

Bad news fellows. The agenda is total disarmament of the civilian populations. World socialism, world order and enslavement of populations cannot be achieved without it. I am surprised that so many people think that the gun control advocates are simply ignorant of firearms and simply do not understand the functionally of arms. While some may be motivated by pain and loss of a loved one most have a specific agenda. Registration will come, make no mistake about it and confiscation will follow. Even Stevie Wonder should see that now.

The question is. What does the constitution mean to us today?
What if anything are we as citizens of the United States prepared to do?
Does it really even matter anymore?

jsid-1069773617-256668  Wince and Nod at Tue, 25 Nov 2003 15:20:17 +0000

With about 70 million gun owners, do you think we could come up with 50,000 to march in NJ? Anyone know a charismatic minister to lead us?

Yours,
Wince

jsid-1069784980-256666  geekWithA.45 at Tue, 25 Nov 2003 18:29:40 +0000

re: 50,000 gunnies marching in NJ:

NJ Population: 8.4 million
Estimated Firearms Ownership: 12-14% (as per Lott, significantly lower than
just about everywhere else, which is 40-50%)
Estimated NJ gunowners: 1.2 million

NJ gunnies willing to get out of bed, vote for freedom, and do a protest march: < 100. (I can name most of them)

NJ politicians willing to laugh at them: Pretty much all of them.

BTW: I read this case ages ago, but I don't remember: was this a JURY trial?

Remember, this is the same New Jersey Supreme Court that completely ignored the state's election law and let Frank (the walking cadaver) Lautenberg parachute into the election at the eleventh hour to pinch hit for the Robert (steal anything that isn't nailed down) Torricelli.

The state makes gun ownership such a pain in the ass (particularly handgun ownership) that most folks don't bother. However, it seems like just about every piece of shit criminal in Newark is armed to the teeth.

Makes me sick.

No, it's definitely not too early to start shooting the statist shitheads.

It may, however, be too late.

Kevin;

This may make you feel a little bit better:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Marlin%20Model%20.60%20human%20killing

Somebody apparently ran a Google search for the potential lethality of a Marlin Model 60, and your blog and mine both came up before Sweinstein's page did. Could it be a sign that slowly, slowly, we're making progress?

Of course, it's also a sign of how far we have to go, before that Sweinstein page is buried so deep in the Internet no one ever sees it.

This is the most bullshit nanny law that I have seen thus far. If that is considered an assault weapon then the police are shooting assault weapons when they shot the AR-15. All I gotta say is thank god I'm a Kentucky Resident if they want my guns they gotta go through about 10 weeks of basic training that will be unleashed on em'. Pry it from my cold dead hands. HOOAH!!!!!!
