The spirit of Ernie Pyle is alive and well in Michael Yon.

Thanks for the link.

Michael Yon writes: "Huge amounts of blog-energy go into attacks on mainstream media war coverage that might be better spent ignoring the irritant and offering alternative sources,.. These skirmishes between mainstream and alternative media produce only friendly fire casualties, and neither side can claim a monopoly on accuracy and objectivity."

Substituting "hunters and shooters" for "mainstream and alternative media" should produce the same conclusions regarding the ongoing Jim Zumbo controversy: Neither side can claim a monopoly on accuracy and objectivity.

Just as hunters were slandered by the CBS documentary "Guns of Autumn," hosted by the gun-hating Dan Rather, many in today's black rifle crowd dismiss hunting and hunters as mouth-breathing, atavistic slobs. If Zumbo helped the hoplophobes, the EBR owners are helping to vindicate Dan Rather.

We would benefit from an ecumenical spirit in all this. For my part, I intend to respect and defend a penitent Zumbo just readily as I would the the man who owns a battle carbine for the defense and security of a free state.
