This is what putting right what one made wrong looks like:

Real contrition
Atonement
Begging pardon

As was said, real contrition entails knowing the full nature of your offense. Zumbo doesn't.

"I'm sorry" are not magic words. They're necessary, but incomplete without a plan of action to rectify the mess.

See if ground is recovered, then ask for forgiveness.

Til then, he reaps what he's sown.

Petzal should have just stayed out of this.

Petzal seems to feel that we should welcome (or at least accept without protest) being marginalized by the "hunting only" supporters for fear of allowing the anti gunners to see that a split exists, or "worse" that we should fear further insults and marginalizing from hunters. Does he really expect that type of timidity from Second Amendment supporters??

That's just insulting. You fight your battles, Petzal, and we'll fight ours.

This guy defends Zumbo because he feels the same way.

For 40 years, Jim has been a spokesman and ambassador of good will for hunting.

That statement says it all. Forgive me for raising my voice but I just can't help myself: THIS ISN'T ABOUT HUNTING AND NEVER HAS BEEN.

This is about gun rights. Hunting is something you DO with your gun rights, just like skeet shooting or target shooting or knocking over tin cans. Those are EXPRESSIONS

jsid-1172232250-551446  Sailorcurt at Fri, 23 Feb 2007 12:04:10 +0000

Sorry, I hit [shift] something while typing and it posted my comment before complete. Allow me to pick up with my last sentence.

...Those are EXPRESSIONS or the right, not the right itself. In order to be able to participate and actively EXPRESS the right, it must be defended...by ALL who wish to express regardless of the manner in which that expression manifests.

That is the point that Zumbo missed in every one of his "apologies" and that This yahoo missed in Zumbos defense.

And That's why he's wrong.

Zumbo (and presumably the others still in the Fuddite community) STILL don't get it- check out his comments on the Nugent Forum-

http://crypticsubterranean.blogspot.com/2007/02/missing-point.html

Hunting, hunting, hunting- he even brings out the old "legitimate hunting purposes" line.

It's amazing that these people still haven't realised exactly what the fuss was about.I guess some of them still think that they can get the gun grabbers to leave them alone by offering up the non-hunting guns?

As I say to the Fudds on my range:

"If I lose my rifles I will do everything in my power to ensure you lose yours - vote anti-gun, donate to VPC, whatever it takes. I will post land I own as no hunting."

That usually shuts them up.

I posted my now-usual "Welcome to Zumbofornia, Coming to Your State Soon" over at Petzal's blog, but him starting off by describing everybody-else as a mental patient is hardly encouraging and exhibits no clarity on his part.

I for one am really disappointed; I've been reading his blog since it kicked off and enjoying it thoroughly- including the anti-gun-grabber posts.

This is the first time I've seen this side, and it's a damned ugly one.

"Even so, Jim made an immediate apology. He did not equivocate, or qualify, or make excuses. He acted like a gentleman and said he was wrong, and he was sorry. Apparently this is not enough anymore. We now live in the era of one strike and you're out."

Yes, life sucks. Life isn't fair. Try using the same logic when pulled over for speeding. "Um, gee wiz, officer, I've been really really law abiding so can't we just dispense with the ticket because I've been a gentleman and admitted I was wrong?"

Grown men know that actions have reactions and don't whine about it when caught being dumb.

I didn't know Petzal was for compromise. He is another big bolt action hunting guy. I guess he and Zumbo just don't get it. Both of them should clean M-16 rifles for the boys in Iraq. Now that is saying your sorry!

jsid-1172424017-551535  The Freeholder at Sun, 25 Feb 2007 17:20:17 +0000

It seems there is a huge rift between hunters and shooters, but it generally only goes one way. Shooters, in general, support hunters, while hunters generally don't reciprocate.

I wonder what the hunters will say when their sniper rifles, er, scoped hunting rifles are the target of the follow-on to HR 1022?

jsid-1172426981-551538  Kevin Baker at Sun, 25 Feb 2007 18:09:41 +0000

Not necessary. Just ban any ammunition "capable of penetrating a police ballistic-armor vest." That would be any center-fire rifle ammunition of any caliber.
