I was beginning to think that you had been deleted. I kept getting a access denied error.

Good to see you back.

Your blog has always been slow to load.

First it gets all the sidebar crap, and then it loads the actual content that I want to read.

If I flush my cache, and then load your site, it takes roughly about the same time, meaning that none of the window dressing, the "axis of asshole" and the rest of the crap, is being retained in my local cache, every bit of it is getting downloaded every single time, instead of just the few Kb of text that's new for that post. Wasteful and slow.

I'm not trying to bust your balls, but I thought you would like to know. The writing here is superb.

Blogspot seems to go down about as often as a Clinton intern.

Actually, Jim, it's been pretty reliable for several months. Far better than the first year I used it.

Standard Mischief:

If I knew how to fix that, I'd do it.

Part of the reason I moved. If I want to rant right now, the blog better be ready and blogger wasn't sometimes.

I think it's mostly because you are using photobucket, okcupid and the like instead of putting the resources on your own dime's bandwidth.

All the counters and stuff from sitemeter and truthlaidbear slow stuff down too, but i usually use the extension Adblock on Firefox to kill them.

Sorry my readership doesn't show on your stats.

If I was really clever, I'd probably use the RSS feed to scrape the entire text instead of just using it to tell me when you have posted, but I usually like to visit the sites themselves, usually thats the only way you get to read comments. Comments are 60% of why I read blogs.

Comments are about 40% of why I blog, so we're even.

Blogspot apparently had big problems yesterday. Several other blogs were either down or took over five minutes to load - on broadband! One blogger (Betsy???) was complaining (on unaffected blogs) that not only had her blog disappeared but her URL had been hijacked by someone else.

She's back up.
