The problem appears to be the MIME type and x-mac-type mangling. This
behavior is by design.
You may want to remove DOC and XLS from your local mangled extensions
list, especially for locally-originated email. Doing this will not
prevent the attachment scanning, but will prevent their names and MIME
types from being mangled.

this.
