Piping mail through a filter that fails can drop the first character
of the message. It is possible that multiple iterations of this could
lead to more characters being dropped.
In the case of the sanitizer, the most likely cause is not being able
to write to the log file due to permissions or out-of-space issues.
Check your logfile.
The problem may be fixed in the current development releases of
procmail. I haven't been following the procmail list too closely the
last month or so.
